Increasingly, Election Management Bodies have accepted the idea that not all voters will be able to vote in person, in their designated polling station, on Election Day, so what are the remote voting options that they offer so that voters can vote differently and under what conditions? There are three main forms of remote voting: personal (someone else may case the vote instead of the eligible voter), temporal (the vote can be cast before Election Day) and geographical (the vote can be cast somewhere else than the voter’s designated polling station) or a combination of the three. In this section we dissect the forms of remote voting offered to citizens across systems.
